How do I get w/ an independent label?

I want to sing but I want to get with an independent label. I'm not interested in a major label that is going to try to turn me into Beyonce or Ashanti. Does anyone know how I would go about this? I'm trying to get some money together now to record a demo. I wonder how much money independent artists can make? How do I go about it? Any ideas or insight? Thanks guys!!!

1. they don't make much, there just isn't enough money to promote and distribute. the best idea is to do it yourself.

3. If you are free person having no fixation then you are already independent. Rest is your singing Carree, for that do not over marking yourself. If you have real talent go for it.
